Who is Calling Me?

Who Called Us Logo

Check out whocalled.us

While I was on the phone, another call clicked in. I didn’t answer it because I’ve seen the number (559-457-0453) and company (Next Level Solutions) before and they’ve never left a message.

Well, after I was done with my phone call, sure enough, the previous caller didn’t leave a message. Not surprising.

Who is Calling Me?

Curious, I wanted to find out who this was, so I typed “Next Level Solutions 559″ into Google. Check out what site came up.

Turns out, from the comments listed, that this company was calling to solicit subscriptions to The Chronicle. The irony is that we already take the paper.

Anyhoo…I thought others would find whocalled.us very useful in helping with those annoying telemarketers that seem to get through even though most of us are on the “Do Not Call List”.

Enjoy your week and the long upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend.

More Blogger Benefits Are Announced In New Release

Hello.

I just helped a customer, Sandalwood Skincare, get setup with Blogger. (I seem to be a natural at this). Anyhoo…

Blogger has many great features; the best is being absolutely free. Getting setup with Blogger is a snap. You can be blogging in minutes. The quickest way to setup is to choose one of their free templates. Or you can setup an HTML template within Blogger that integrates with your own website. (This process may take considerable more time to figure out if you haven’t done it before).

Blogger has announced some new enhanced features for its next release. One of my favorites is labels or categories. Now you’ll be able to separate your blog posts by category; something that’ s been a long time coming.

I think Blogger’s top benefits are:

  1. It’s FREE. You just can’t beat that.
  2. It’s user friendly. It’s simple to write and publish your blogs.
  3. You can integrate Blogger into your website so your blog has the same look and feel as your website.

Contact us if you need help setting up your blog. We’ve done it for many of our clients with terrific results.

Search Engines Love Text, Not Images

Hello.

I received a call a few months ago about why her website was not coming up in the search engines. After reviewing her website, I had the answer.

Her homepage (which was her whole website) was an image. The search engines couldn’t find her site because it was an image. Search engines index images, but they don’t index text if the text is part of the image. (You’ll know its real text when you can highlight it with your mouse).

My suggestion to her was to convert the image text to real text. By doing this Google and other search engines would be able to index her page and she’d show up in the search engines.

It Worked

I saw her last week at the latest Chamber mixer and she wanted to say thanks because after changing her site, it is now being indexed by Google and coming up higher in the search engines.

I’m always glad to help out…and know that it’s working. ;-)

So…lesson learned…if you’re website is filled with text images, remove them and replace them with real text.

Remember, search engines love plain ‘ol text.

It’s Your Customer’s Website, Not Yours

I am in the process of renewing my fictitious business name and was amazed at the excellent change to our Alameda County Clerk’s website.

Immediately I, that’s I, was asked what I wanted to do. And there it was:

How do I file/apply for…Fictitious Business Name?
And on the main Fictitious Business Name page, the directions were simple and to the point on how to apply.

Very impressive indeed.

We are in the Information Architecture stage of a project right now and having to deal with this same premise - asking the visitors, “What’s In It For Me?“. Knowing this and how the user will access information/data to lead them to their purpose (i.e. to make contact) is the main goal at this stage.

There is a reason why people hire MJS Web Solutions. You’re not just getting a web designer, you’re getting a web architectural firm that will plan and build your website using our proven 5 phase web development plan.

How To Get More Website Inquires

A customer of ours recently asked (in an email) why he wasn’t receiving any contacts from his website.

“I continue to receive almost no website contacts. Can you do anything?”

Something can be done and I wanted to share my answers with you.

  • Increase your exposure on the search engines by adding relevant keywords to your website, thus increasing more traffic to your website.
  • Pay for placement (ads) on the search engines to increase traffic to your website.
  • Offer a “Free Report” or an incentive for people when they contact you from your website.
  • Add your website to online directories with a link back to your website.
  • We could build a new page called, “Why Choose Us?” or a “Testimonials” page to give people more reasons to contact you.
  • We could create an offline marketing campaign that would draw and attract more people/visitors to your website.

These are just some solutions to getting more traffic and inquires to your website.

Comment Spam Sucks

Spam, spam and more comment spam.

All bloggers know what it is. If you don’t know what comment spam is, it’s spambots looking for comment forms so they can insert garbage content, like this:

comment spam

The image is from an email. Wordpress (my new blogging software) will moderate comments and notify you of new comments on your blog. Unfortunately, it moderates spam comment as well.

So, if you’d like to leave a comment, for now, you must register - which basically means I’m turning off comments - until I can come up with a better solution (which is a captcha add-on I have to install).

Thank you for your patience.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hi

I didn’t want to leave without saying Hi. So…Hi.

It’s been extremely busy around here. This is a good thing. We’re helping others make money and they help us make money. It’s a great relationship.

We just completed an SEO report for one of customers and learned their site increased it’s click through rate by 5%. It’s doesn’t seem like much, but inquires have also increased. I don’t think this is a coincidence.

I’ll tell you more on how we did it in the next post.

Hope you are having a great summer.
