Interviewed by San Francisco Chronicle: Website On The Cheap
Hello.
Very busy over here. I guess you can tell by the lack of postings recently. I need to take my own advice and follow a routine with a post each week. Anyhoo…
I was recently interviewed and featured in the San Francisco Chronicle again. Ilana DeBare, who writes the Mind Your Business Column, contacted me a few weeks ago regarding a question about setting up a website “on the cheap”.
I told her to type into your favorite search engine the words “web templates” or “free web templates”. Most results offer a complete website, sometimes including web hosting. All you need to do is add your own content.

Blogs Are Becoming Mainstream Media
I was going to write about making minor changes to a website can have drastic, positive results, but I already talked about that before (though it’s still important to mention again…)
Instead I thought it was important to mention Engadget a “gadget blog” received a record number of pages views (hits to some) to it’s blog.
Blogs are becoming mainstream.
A number of my clients are learning that keeping up a blog can result in dramatic, positive effects to their website.
Setting up a blog on an existing website is not difficult. Keeping a blog up to date is.
MJS Web Solutions can integrate your new blog into your existing web design. Contact us to learn more.
If you’re a do-it-your-selfer, try Blogger or Wordpress.

Easy On The Eyes Font Setting for Windows XP
Happy New Year!
I just recently purchased a new Dell system with the 24″ monitor, very similar to the Apple monitors. Excellent purchase, no doubt. Anyhoo…
The type (or font) on my new LCD monitor was pixelated and not very clear, so I changed my display settings (a setting that should be on by default in Windows XP) to show ClearType. Now the edges are smoother and easier on the eyes.
To smooth the edges of your Windows fonts, just:
- Right-click on your desktop
- Choose the Appearance tab
- Select the Effects button
- Check the box that says, “Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:”
- Select ClearType from the drop-down menu
- Click OK and OK and enjoy the change
